autumn guided meditation for letting go
This season means so much to me. Fall is always the season of letting go, of creating a warm cozy atmosphere, and of gratitude.
And this year, the meaning and significance of all of those things is taken even more to heart.
When it comes to the concept of letting go, consider the heaviness of what we have had to bear this year, on the personal, collective and global level. It’s helpful to think about the extra burden we carry in our minds and hearts now, and intentionally let go (if only just for a few moments).
I recorded a guided meditation video specifically for this purpose, which you’ll find linked below.
Earth is our greatest healer, ally and teacher.
As a student of Nature, I take to heart the lessons of the seasons and cycles of the Earth: the cycles of rest, regeneration and renewal.
Whatever condition we suffer from, whether it be the collective grief, trauma and sickness of this year, or our own personal travails, Nature offers a model for us to live in a healthy way, as well as the healing medicines of the land and waters.
In Fall, Nature teaches us to:
Let go. Think the thoughts and let them go. Feel the feelings and know they will pass. Let what no longer serves you, fall away. Allow everything to enter and leave your awareness as a sacred gift of life and the human experience. Use your breath to nourish your body with oxygen, and allow your breath to ease you through the moments of difficulty.
Embrace peace. When we gain a higher perspective we see that all is in a constant and continual state of change. Be like the trees that let go of their leaves and allow them to return to the Earth, so that we, too, can enter a state of stillness and rest.
Be an artist. How can you not feel awe when you see the fiery colors of autumn leaves? Nature uses every color in her palette to make spectacular art everywhere. Allow Nature to inspire you. Try painting the colors you see around you. Try creating something new—with colors, flavors, scents, textures—that are inspired by the season.
(I’m sharing a video below about Beam handmade watercolor paints, which will show you how to mix colors.)
Be Grateful. Autumn is the time to enjoy the fruits of our labor and Nature’s abundance. It is the time to give thanks that the Earth continues to sustain and nourish us, and we have the opportunity to give back what we’ve been given.
While this year looks and feels so different in so many ways, we still can look to the Earth to find ways to BE in healthy ways.
